The Gear

The Mountain Hardwear Product Team worked tirelessly with Ueli to develop custom designs specific to the demands of Project Himalaya. Addressing the uncompromising need for safety in extreme conditions with Ueli’s desire to go as light and fast as possible, posed unique challenges to the Design team. Old perceptions of expedition gear simply wouldn’t do, and the team embarked on a revolutionary, weight savings system approach. See the full kit ›

With Suunto, Ueli is able to carry a full sports laboratory on his wrist. When Training in the Khumbu, Ueli wears the Suunto t6d – so that he can monitor his real-time Training Effect and EPOC. When going for a summit assault on the 8,000 meter peaks, Ueli will be wearing the Suunto Core Extreme, whose barometer has a storm alarm and weather trends indicator. The Core display “is just straight forward like it should be for the mountains.” See the gear ›

Ueli’s alpine gloves are built with OutDry Technology – the new industry standard for waterproof/breathable handwear. The OutDry lamination process assures that the gloves are totally waterproof, totally windproof, and perform with far better dexterity than any alpine glove you’re used to. See the gear ›
